Euneirophrenia is a sculptural body suspended between organism, instrument and archaeological residue. Drawing together harp, pelvic, skeletal and marine forms, it imagines a relic continually altered by growth, erosion and reconfiguration. Stretched strings suggest musical vibration and bodily systems of transmission.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jill Yao is an interdisciplinary artist and Fine Art graduate of Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London. Working across sculpture, installation, moving image, sound and emerging technologies, her practice investigates how pre-linguistic and intangible states of experience can acquire material form and become collectively perceptible. Moving between organic and synthetic matter, Yao approaches artistic practice as a process of material and energetic transmutation, an alchemical method through which affective states are distilled and reconfigured through symbol, matter and space. Rather than representing inner experience, her work constructs conditions through which it can be encountered, allowing the personal to become a site of shared perception, collective resonance and the ongoing reconstruction of subjectivity.
